Emily Thomas is a hand embroiderer inspired and intruigued by the curiosites of our daily lives. Each hand embroidered piece is driven by craftsmanship. Offering an alternative approach to hand embroidery through closely linking narrative with inventive drawing techniques. 

Challenging what is expected from a traditional craft is very much embedded within her embroidery practice. Exploring this through colour, repetition, deconstructing stitches and even working inside out are all techniques that are explored onto a variety of material surfaces. Through studying textile craft at University, has given Thomas a broad knowledge in different aspects of textiles including print, knit and weave in addition to hand and digital embroidery.

 

Bringing embroidery into a contemporary and fresh aesthetic is something Emily feels passionately about.  Thomas loves the intricate details that can be created through layers of embroidery stitches while playing with a materials surface and characteristics.

Using unconventional drawing methods inspires textures and intricatley marbled threads to recreate these marks onto fabric.
